Java Fern Crested small
Java Fern Crested small , scientifically known as Microsorum pteropus, ‘Windelov’ is a very popular live aquarium plant from South East Asia that is available in many varieties. The most popular are the lance leaf, needle leaf, narrow leaf,
This plant is one of the easiest to grow in most tanks and will quickly spread like a weed if kept in good conditions. Of course, moving it around and/or replanting it will slow the growth process for a while, but in a few weeks it should be back in shape and reach over 30 cm tall and 15cm wide.
Lighting Requirements
This plant thrives in low to moderate lighting conditions, reflecting its natural adaptation to growing under the canopy of larger trees and vegetation. Excessive light can promote algae growth on the leaves, so it’s best to maintain subdued lighting for optimal health.
Water Conditions
Crested Java Fern is adaptable to a wide range of water parameters, thriving in temperatures between 22°C to 28°C and pH levels from 6.0 to 7.5. It is not particularly demanding regarding water hardness, making it suitable for most community aquariums.
Planting and Maintenance
Similar to other Java Fern varieties, the Crested Java Fern should not be buried in the substrate but rather attached to driftwood, rocks, or aquarium decorations. Over time, its roots will naturally adhere to these surfaces, securing the plant in place.
