Scientific Name: Vallisneria spiralis
Vallisneria is a great beginner plant as it is very easy to grow, and does not require heating or much light. Despite this, it is still used by many advanced aquascapers for its attractive qualities as background plant.
It is a “true aquatic” plant, as it requires to be submersed underwater at all times for its reproductive cycle. In many areas of Australia, city councils and other local governing bodies plant Vallisneria in large scale quantities throughout creek and river systems for revegetation and silt reduction purposes.
